Betzkygate...or whatever

This whole Tocchet/NJ Police betting thing is getting really annoying. It's been a long time since a lack of news has caused this much news. It's being talked about all over Canadian media, both sports and non-sports. It's getting entire sports radio shows devoted to it and you just can't seem to avoid it. If you're not sure what all the fuss is about, here's what we know so far.

Rich Tocchet, assitant coach to Wayne Gretzky in Phoenix, allegedly has been funding a gambling ring in New Jersey since October 2005. The ring was being assisted by a NJ State Trooper. Janet Jones (Gretzky's wife) was allegedly one of about a dozen people who are known to have placed bets. There's a report from an unnamed source that Wayne allegedly is heard on a phone conversation with Tocchet trying to figure out how to keep his wife from getting caught up in all the mess.

That's it. Hours of reporting, speculation, and some of the stupidest questions you will ever hear are based on one paragraph of writing. These media idiots are making everyone's life on the Canadian olympic hockey team a nightmare, especially the Gretzky family, and for what? The guy's got a squeaky clean history, he's one of Canada's most recognized figures, and we're trying to find ways to tarnish him. Why? I don't get it.

Simply because bad news sells better than good news.

Well it's starting to look like it's going to blow over. Outside of Tocchet I don't see anyone from the NHL being in any real trouble.
