Diversity lacking on White Sox
The gist of the article is that there are no black players on the Houston Astros (one of the teams in the World Series right now - why it says White Sox in the title of the article, I don't know).
Hall of famer Joe Morgan was quoted as saying "Of course I noticed it. How could you not?" Well, Joe, I've watched a good chunk of all three games so far, and I didn't notice it. Why? Because I wasn't looking for it.
Later in the article, it talks about how only 9% of players this season were black.
But let's crunch the numbers. The average major league roster probably has about 25 guys on it at any given time, and there are 30 teams, that's 750 players. At 9%, that's about 67 black players, or an average of just over 2 per team. At an average of 2 per team, there's obviously going to be some teams with no black players, while other will have 4 or 5, it's simple statistics.
The real problem, if you want more black players, is to get more black children interested in the game at an early age. The article addresses this, noting that most black athletes are choosing other sports (baskeball and football).
If you want to get people interested in baseball, maybe you shouldn't take 3 and a half hours to play a game.
