Cool Video

Basically they dressed up a girl like a seal at a polar bear exhibit...hilarity ensues.

I feel bad for the girl though, she was pretty frightened.

An age old question

After reading Sara's excellent "open letter to Stephen Harper", this post seems like a waste of internet space. However, it is a question that must be asked. Philosophers have debated it for years, and at the bar last night we got into it again. Now, I ask the internet community at large (or at least the half-dozen people who read my blog):

Who would win if Jack Daniels wrestled Captain Morgan?

I was going to post this a while ago...

but I forgot.

SNL Celebrity Jeopardy!

It's got the videos for all 13 episodes.

Trebek: John Travolta learned how to dance for this movie.

Connery: That, would be Jaws.

Random Update

Added a few links to my sidebar. My webpage has nothing useful yet, but it will contain stuff eventually.

Also, I found a pretty cool webpage which is really handy. Basically you subscribe rss feeds to it and it'll display all the headlines on one page. I've got a bunch of blogs, plus tsn.ca, canada.com, slashdot, and a gis news feed all sitting on one page, and it shows me all the headlines of sites that I'd have to visit individually to see if there were updates. Check it out if you're interested.

Pensions for Losers

I found an interesting article on canada.com just now, it talks about the severance that retiring/defeated MPs get.

There are 4 MPs who are going to receive pensions in the $3 million+ range, the highest being over $3.7 million (it works out to over $137K a year). The smallest will receive $40K a year.

Now if you're an MP who's been working in Ottawa for 30 years and is retiring at 65 then I have no problem with reasonable compensation. But take the $40K a year case. The guy was first elected in 1997, and now with less than 10 years experience he's going to get a $40K a year pension before he turns 55. Now I know that's not a ridiculous sum, but show me another job where I can go there, work for 9 years, and collect a $40K annual pension for the rest of my life.

Of course, maybe I'm just bitter that it's not me.

Cool Music Thing

So I'm listening to some OLP at school, and suddenly half of the audio goes out on my headphones. I'm sure we've all had that happen before. But I noticed that what had gone out was Raine's voice, and what remained was everything else. And it's actually a neat way to listen to the song. I just listened to Apology which is a beautiful song to begin with, but this time with no words. The guitar work sounds even better without the voice. You also get to hear the vocal harmony parts, but they're on their own which sounds very cool.

This would also be a cool way to learn the guitar parts to songs since the guitar is the dominant thing you hear.

Just thought I'd share.

Voting Quiz Thing

This is a neat little quiz I found, it gauges how much you agree with each party's stance on key issues, but doesn't tell you which party the statements are being made from.

It's sort of a political barometer.

For the record, I agreed with:
Layton 11/12 times
Duceppe 10/12 times
Martin 8/12 times
Harper 8/12 times

Other than Duceppe being so high, that's pretty much what I expected.

Our Next PM?

From a campaign rally in Quebec...apparantly his point wasn't all that clear:

Harper...had a spot of trouble getting the crowd onside.

"For 16 years the Bloc has denounced the tendency of the Liberals to intrude in provincial jurisdiction," Harper told them.

"Has this intrusion stopped?"

To his chagrin, the confused audience replied "Oui!" He quickly shouted back: "Non!"

Just thought I'd share some of the linguistic abilities of the man who looks to be the next Prime Minister.

I was poking around looking at laptop prices, hoping that someone maybe had a great deal on, when I found the ultimate deal.

Federal Debate II: The Sequel

For those of you who missed the debate last night, I'll summarize for you.

Harper: The Liberals are corrupt...and did you notice that I wear turtlenecks now...I'm casual like that.

Layton: We need more women and immigrants in Parliament, and proportional representation will give us that...and the Liberals are corrupt.

Duceppe: The Liberals are corrupt...and Quebec is special.

Martin: I've dealt with the allegations of corruption...I'm hear to deal with the issues...Mr Harper, how would you strengthen the Charter?

Harper: I believe that can be accomplished when the government is accountable and not corrupt...and that Prime Ministers should wear turtlenecks...I'm not a robot you know.

Basically it was a night of three party leaders reiterating the corruption allegations against the Liberals, and Martin trying to deal with the issues. All in all, if you missed it, I envy you.

This year's Oscar host is...

Jon Stewart

Hmm, I might actually watch a few minutes of it this year if he's hosting. I'll at least watch the opening monologue.
