Jingle Bells

I don't typically buy into these "this song has a demonic message when played backwards" things, but they're still entertaining.

Jingle Bells Reversed

Okay, now I'm upset.

So I tried to go to my favourite tab site (MXtabs.net) yesterday and it wasn't working. I figured their server must be down. I tried again today and it still didn't work, so I figure something must be up. It turns out that the Music Publishers of America are trying to do to tab and lyric sites what the RIAA is doing to file-sharing.

Now I didn't get all up in arms when the RIAA started taking down file sharing software, it may have sucked but they did have a point. But doing it to tab makes no sense. An mp3 is a direct copy of something that's available to be purchased, tab isn't. There are tab books out there for some bands that you can purchase, and occasionally you'll actually see a tab that's been taken from a tab book, but probably 98% of the tabs out there are simply by-ear transcriptions.

What's worse is that they won't stop it. They may take down the big sites, but all you have to do is go to a fan page for a particular band and they will often have a better and more diverse selection of tabs for a particular band.

Once again, this proves why big business has no place in music. With all the copy protection on CDs and now the tab stuff, they've pushed me over the edge.

I bought my first CD in 1996, and since then I've spent between $1,000 - $1,500 on music. And now I'm being told that I can't enjoy it the way I want? To hell with all of them.

911 for Emergencies Only

Link

My dad told me about this last night and I found the story online today. Basically, the OPP is getting annoyed with all the people calling 911 for non-emergencies.

I think you should be fined for making calls like that. I'm sure there are some things that are in a grey area, but not these:

Calls asking for directions from Kitchener to Toronto, conditions for ice fishing, and road conditions a month away don't qualify.

Police say 90 per cent of 911 calls are not emergencies.
Personally, I've called 911 once for an incident at Shell, and that's it.
